Asia-Pacific Outgames, Auckland, February 2016 – update

The governing body overseeing the Asia Pacific Outgames has withdrawn from the 2016 event to be held in Auckland in February. The Gay and Lesbian International Sporting Association Asia Pacific (GLISA AP) said despite the hard work of the working group in preparing for the event, the progress to date has been deemed inadequate and as such it cannot be delivered as an Asia-Pacific Outgames.You can read the full story at Gay News Network/SX News

Community events
Team Sydney is having a booth at the following community events to promote the LGBT sports clubs and to encourage new members. If you are going along make sure to stop by the Team Sydney booth and say hello. Tennis Sydney and Amazon Tennis will have promotional material available and some volunteers to help out on the booth.

Mardi Gras Festival 2016
Planning is well underway for the LGBT sporting community to participate in the Mardi Gras Festival next year. Tennis Sydney and Amazon Tennis are looking at different options for our participation with more details to be announced shortly. The key dates for Mardi Gras 2016 are:

Sports Festival – various dates throughout February
Fair Day – Sunday 21 February
Mardi Gras Parade/Party – Saturday 5 March

Team Sydney upcoming events

Team Sydney Fundraising Dinner – Wednesday 28 October
Venue: The Bowler’s Club of NSW, York St (near QVB) Cost: Tables of 10 $700 or $79 p/person – 3 course dinner and loads of entertainment.
Purpose: Team Sydney is raising funds for a scholarship to send an athlete to the 2018 Gay Games in Paris. Further details and tickets available here. 

Sports Conference – Saturday 7 May 2016
Venue: The Bowler’s Club of NSW, York St (near QVB)
Theme: Inclusivity in Sport – focusing on current research and practice in areas relating to the promotion of, and safe participation in, all kinds of sport, exercise and physical activity. More details including the guest speakers and registration will be available soon.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Gay Games and OutGames
There is an MOU planned between the Federation of Gay Games and the Gay & Lesbian International Sport Association (GLISA), organisers of the Outgames, to host what is being called a ONE WORLD EVENT in 2022.

To help you with your international tennis careers, the following events are scheduled so you can plan your overseas holidays well in advance:

EuroGames, 29 June – 2 July 2016, Helsinki, Finland
World Masters Games, 21-30 April 2017, Auckland, NZ
World Outgames, 26 May – 4 June 2017, Miami, USA
10th Gay Games, 4-12 August 2018, Paris, France

The 2018 Paris Gay Games organisers are estimating over 10,000 LGBT sports people will be participating to celebrate the 10th edition of the Gay Games. You can follow the planning for the Australian and New Zealand teams going to Paris on facebook at www.facebook.com/auski2paris
