Fundraising Event – Final Figure

The final figure from our fundraising event is $1570.00 which will be donated to Twenty10. Without the help of fundraising events, sponsorship and donations, Twenty10 would not be able to do the essential work it does. Twenty10 helps young people under the age of 26 who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer or transgender, or are same-sex attracted, gender diverse or intersex, access the support and help they may need.

On behalf of the Tennis Sydney committee I would like to thank members for their generosity in supporting Twenty10. I extend our appreciation as club members to the committee for their time and dedication in organising this event. In particular, Dean Matterson and Geoff Daus as Co-Tournament Directors did a magnificent job with running the tournament. Steve Cashen ensured that we were all fed for the day with his barbeque while Mark Pfeiffer made and donated soup, cakes and cookies. Huy Pham, Tsukasa Ishida and Elena Sarno baked cakes and cookies as donations to look after our sweet tooth for the day.  All proceeds from the food sales were contributed to Twenty10. Ray Lance once again took over the raffle selling duties and raised a magnificent sum of $627, we appreciate his time and unreserved effort. Our gratitude goes to the Tennis Ranch and Tyrone Andres for the provision of prizes for the raffle. Thanks to those who assisted with the set-up and pack down for the day.

Tennis Sydney appreciates use of the fabulous facilities at Marrickville Districts Lawn Tennis Club which generated a great atmosphere for an enjoyable social day. Marrickville Districts Lawn Tennis Club generously provided the courts at half price which increased the final donation amount to Twenty10.

Finally. thank you to all the players and supporters who helped make the Tennis Sydney 2011 Lawn Doubles Classic such a successful event.

Let’s do it again in 2012.

Division 1 Review

Despite a few early round washouts, the Div 1 winter comp has been pretty hot – it has featured one of the strongest winter fields in terms of depth in the 16 year history of the event.

Despite this, Russell Hall has had a very strong Winter season, losing just one set to date with only 1 round to go. Of course he only scored 1 point on one of the nights play but that was only because his partner was out of the country and there was a bit of a communication mix up. Otherwise the winning margin would have been even greater. It just goes to show how strong Mrs. Court is – just like the real deal back in the 60s and early 70s. Making her assured victory even more impressive is the fact that she has been nursing a sore elbow of late, and so hasn’t been able to serve at full strength – but her groundies have been razor like and lethal on the glorious camperdown courts.
